Product Information

Rosemary Essential Oil (Spanish) is highly valued for its powerful antiseptic and medicinal properties and, like our other Rosemary Essential Oils, carries a deeply herbaceous and eucalyptus-like aroma. Rosemary Essential Oil is rich in benefits that have been seen to assist in many aspects of life, from aromatherapy and massage, to skincare and cleaning.
But if you’re wondering what is the difference between Rosemary Essential Oils, the answer is they have different chemotypes (ct.), meaning the genetic chemical makeup can differ across various types – meaning they have different benefits. AWO’s Rosemary Essential Oil (Spanish) is the Camphor chemotype, which means it has a high percentage of naturally occurring camphor. This constituent is what makes this oil particularly beneficial for increasing circulation, easing muscle aches, and reducing inflammation.
High in Camphor, along with other valued constituents, Rosemary Spanish Essential Oil benefits include:
- The camphor content within Spanish Rosemary Oil makes this oil highly beneficial for muscular and joint complaints such as aches, cramps, spasms and pains.
- Rosemary ct. Camphor Oil works wonderfully in massage oils, as its analgesic and warming action helps to alleviate muscle and joint pain. Plus, it helps to increase circulation, relieve fluid retention & inflammation, and stimulate the nervous system.
- It’s also known to help reduce arthritis and rheumatic discomfort, as well as headaches and period pain.
- Rosemary Oil is also reputed for its ability to help stimulate hair growth, reduce dandruff and prevent early greying. It is an overall fantastic tonic for a healthy scalp.
- Rosemary Oil has often been used to help increase concentration, memory, creativity, and overall brain function due to its ability to help encourage nerve growth and neurological tissue healing.
- When it comes to skincare, because of the powerful astringent properties, many have found it beneficial for tightening sagging skin, easing puffiness & reducing swelling.
- Whilst not as effective as a Cineol based Rosemary Oil, Camphor Rosemary Oil is also high in 1,8-Cinole and α-pinene and therefore is a fantastic respiratory aid. It helps by opening up the lungs and airways, breaking down excess mucus, and clearing congestion, as well as helping to reduce spasmodic coughing.

What is Rosemary Essential Oil good for?
Pure Rosemary Essential Oil is widely used in aromatherapy for its fresh, herbaceous aroma - a favourite in diffusing, massage blends, hair and scalp formulations, and natural household cleaning. The main Rosemary EO benefits are said to include promoting focus, concentration, and mental clarity. It pairs well with Lavender, Peppermint, Lemon, and Bergamot, each bringing a different character to the blend. To help you make the best choice, we offer rosemary in Moroccan, Spanish, French, and Certified Organic varieties - all 100% pure and natural Rosemary Oils.
What is the best Rosemary Essential Oil for hair?
There is no single "best" Rosemary Oil for hair, as different chemotypes are often chosen for different purposes. Moroccan Rosemary Essential Oil is commonly favoured in hair and scalp care due to its naturally higher 1,8-cineole content, while oil from the Spanish Rosemary plant is often selected for massage blends, aromatherapy, and invigorating body care products because it tends to contain higher levels of camphor.
That said, both varieties can be incorporated into hair care formulations when properly diluted, and the best choice often comes down to personal preference and the intended application. For a more detailed comparison, read our guide: Which Rosemary Oil is Best for Hair?
How do I dilute rosemary essential oil?
For skin use, a 1-3% dilution is the standard - that's roughly 1 drop per 5ml of carrier oil at 1%, or 3 drops per 5ml at 3%. You may want to use the lower end for facial applications or sensitive skin, and the higher end for localised massage blends. For example, a 2% dilution in Jojoba Oil is a safe, versatile starting point for most adult skin.
Can rosemary essential oil cause headaches?
Some people are sensitive to strong herbaceous aromas and may find that the rosemary smell triggers a headache, particularly in an unventilated space or at higher concentrations. If you're new to the oil, start with 1-2 drops of Rosemary Essential Oil in a diffuser and see how you go. Discontinue use if it causes discomfort. As a general precaution, we recommend speaking with a health professional before using rosemary oil if you are pregnant or prone to seizures.
