Essential Oils For Focus

Dealing with internal or external everyday stresses can make it hard to harness your focus during the times you need it most. Whether you are struggling to concentrate, dealing with a bad night's sleep, or are feeling stressed or anxious, finding your focus can sometimes feel difficult.

Luckily, there are some essential oils that are known to help with boosting mental clarity while promoting calmness and tension relief so you can make the most out of your time.

Benefits Of Essential Oils For Focus

With their versatile effects, it’s no surprise that essential oils are known to help with mental clarity, focus, and the occasional 3pm slump. With that being said, a 2021 study has linked the use of some essential oils to improved mental health and mental acuteness.

As such, using essential oils for focus can not only create an uplifting and energising environment, but it may also help with the following:

  • Increase mental alertness
  • Improve memory
  • Enhance limbic system function
  • Alleviate stress and tension
  • Promote cognitive well being

Using essential oils for focus can provide a natural alternative to help alleviate mental cloudiness while creating a mindful environment through aromatherapy.

Best Essential Oils For Focus

There are a variety of essential oils with scents that release refreshing and energising aromas that may help tackle fatigue and inspire mental alertness and clarity. Here are a few of our favourites:

Rosemary Essential Oil

The incredibly herbaceous Rosemary Essential Oil is known for its ties to Ancient Greece and the Mediterranean. The versatile properties of Rosemary Oil are known to improve general health and overall mental wellbeing; this is partially due to the 1,8 Cineole (Eucalyptol) and Linemone content.

In fact, a 2012 study found that diffusing Rosemary Oil influenced neurochemical pathways and acted as a mood booster while increasing cognitive performance.

As one of the best essential oils for focus, Rosemary Oil is now known to boost mental acuity, reduce mental stress and ease tension. Rosemary Oil is further believed to work well with Frankincense Essential Oil to boost concentration while instilling a sense of calm.

Essential Oil Safety

Whilst essential oils are natural products, they are extremely potent and can cause serious harm if used incorrectly. For this reason, we recommend the following:

  • In line with the Therapeutic Goods Act, we do not recommend ingesting essential oils without the guidance of a registered Aromatherapist or Naturopath.
  • Avoid using essential oils during pregnancy and whilst breastfeeding.
  • We recommend storing your essential oils in a cool, dry place at room temperature, ensuring that they are not directly exposed to sunlight and are out of reach of children or pets.
  • Essential Oils can be very concentrated and are likely to cause irritation or reactions if applied directly to the skin. For this reason, it is important to first dilute your essential oils before using topically (on the skin). Our recommended dilution percentages can be found under the ‘Best Essential Oils For Focus’ section.
