Essential Oils For Chakras

Ever get the feeling that your energy is off-balance? If you’re familiar with India’s traditional medical system, Ayurveda, chances are it’s your chakra in need of some balancing.

According to some, essential oils are a great way to re-balance the chakras and reset the body’s energy centres. Here’s our helpful guide to some of our favourite essential oils for chakras.

What is a Chakra?

The term 'Chakra' means 'disk' or 'wheel' in Sanskrit - an ancient language of India. Each chakra is classified as an energy centre that corresponds with emotional functioning and is aligned with major organs and systems of the body. Energy flows throughout the body either moving energy out or pulling energy from your surroundings and people around you.

When chakras are open, it means that energy is flowing naturally throughout the body, meaning you and your energy are both balanced. When chakras become blocked, it can cause physical, emotional and spiritual problems or uncertainty.

There are thought to be over 100 chakras in the body, the seven most well-known follow down the centre of the spine. These include:

  • Muladhara, the Root Chakra
  • Svadishthana, the Sacral Chakra
  • ManiPura, the Solar Plexus Chakra
  • Anahata, the Heart Chakra
  • Vishuddi, the Throat Chakra
  • Anja, the Third Eye Chakra
  • Sahasrara, the Crown Chakra

Diffusion & Dilution Guidelines

Essential oils are extremely potent so it is important to use a safe application of essential oils. When using essential oils on the skin, you should dilute your essential oils in a carrier oil. Some of our most popular carrier oils include:

  • Coconut Oil
  • Almond Oil
  • Jojoba Oil
  • Rosehip Oil
  • Unscented Massage Oil

We also advise against directly inhaling the vapour from an oil diffuser or steam dispenser as this can irritate the mucous membrane.

Essential Oil Safety

Whilst essential oils are natural products, they are extremely potent and can cause serious harm if used incorrectly. For this reason, we recommend the following:

  • In line with the Therapeutic Goods Act, we do not recommend ingesting essential oils without the guidance of a registered Aromatherapist or Naturopath.
  • Avoid using Essential Oils during pregnancy and whilst breastfeeding.
  • We recommend storing your Essential Oils in a cool, dry place at room temperature, ensuring that they are not directly exposed to sunlight and are out of reach of children or pets.
  • Essential Oils can be very concentrated and are likely to cause irritation or reactions if applied directly to the skin. For this reason, it is important to first dilute your essential oils before using topically (on the skin). Our recommended dilution percentages can be found under the ‘Best Essential Oils For Chakras’ section.
