ABYSSINIAN OIL REFINED

Originating from Abyssinia, the highlands area in Ethiopia, Abyssinian Oil is extracted from the seeds of the Crambe abyssinica plant and is also known as Crambe Seed Oil. It contains exceptionally high levels of monounsaturated omega-9 fatty acids (particularly Erucic Acid C22 at up to 65% - the highest known in any plant oil) and has a unique molecular structure not yet found in any other naturally occurring oil.

Contributing to Abyssinian Oils uniqueness is the fact that it’s chemically very close to the oil that our skin produces naturally, plus it contains a wealth of other vitamins, minerals & antioxidants such as omega-3 and 6, Vitamins A, C and E, as well as several B Vitamins. Due to its chemical structure, it is a lightweight oil that absorbs and spreads quickly, without feeling heavy or leaving a greasy residue. Not to mention, it is also considered non-comedogenic, meaning it won’t block your pores.

With skin and haircare benefits that will leave you amazed, along with other convenient uses, it’s no wonder Abyssinian Oil is quickly becoming a favourite natural alternative in the cosmetic and industrial industries.

  • Abyssinian Oil is often compared to Argan Oil due to its similar nature, however, Abyssinian Oil is actually richer in fatty acids than Argan oil, plus, due to its structure it feels less oily and wont weigh hair down like Argan oil can.
  • The long chain fatty acids provide a protective layer to hair, helping to prevent humidity (the catalyst for frizz), as well as resist against heat. For this reason, it can act as a heat protecting treatment for hair when styling using heated tools (blow dryers, straighteners, curlers, etc.).
  • This same protective coating ability is the reason Abyssinian Oil is commonly used as a natural alternative to silicone in hair care products, with the added benefit of not causing chemical buildup on the hair like synthetic silicones do (which in-turn, causes more frizz in the long run)
  • Its rich vitamin & omega content (particularly linoleic and linolenic acid) all help to promote healthy hair by maintaining nutrients, protecting cells, providing hydration & nourishment, reducing breakage & frizz, and encouraging hair growth.
  • The high level of erucic acid is also responsible for Abyssinians anti-fungal properties which can help to eliminate itchy scalp & dandruff.
  • Whilst Abyssinians fatty chain profile makes it a powerhouse for haircare, it is also fantastic for skincare too! Its excellent hydrating properties help to promote skin softness, without leaving a greasy or sticky feeling.
  • Rich in antioxidants, amongst its high vitamin content (especially Vitamin A), makes it excellent for anti-aging. These properties are valued for their ability to aid in reducing the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines, boosting collagen production, supporting skin cell regeneration, and protecting against free radical damage.
  • Its anti-inflammatory properties and non-comedogenic nature can also benefit acne-prone skin.
  • The high content of Erucic acid makes it highly resistant to oxidization, making it last longer than most other vegetable oils.

How to use Oat Oil

There are many ways to use Abyssinian Seed Oil – here are some of our favourite applications:

  • Hair Mask: Apply a few drops of Abyssinian Oil directly onto hair roots and ends to nourish and repair dry or damaged hair. Leave for a few minutes (as long as possible) before shampooing well.
  • Hair Conditioner: Revitalise dull and lacklustre hair by adding a few drops of Abyssinian Oil to your regular hair conditioner. Leave on your hair for 15 minutes and then rinse away.
  • Heat Protectant: Before using heated hair tools, apply a small amount of Abyssinian Oil to your fingers and lightly comb through the ends of your hair after washing and towel drying. Blow dry and style as usual.
  • Directly on the Skin: Enjoy Abyssinian Oil as a facial serum, skin healer or an all-over body moisturiser. May be applied to the skin on its own, however we recommend combining with other Carrier Oils for best results (try Evening Primrose, Rosehip or Avocado). You can also use safe levels of Essential Oils for additional benefits!
  • Skincare: An excellent addition to existing skincare products, or your homemade skincare formulations - try using Abyssinian Oil as an addition to facial serums, body butters, lotions and moisturisers.
