Acai Oil Uses and Benefits

Published 18th Aug 2022

Native to South America, deep in the Amazon Rainforest, Acai Oil has everything you could ask for. As a byproduct of one of the most well-known superfoods on the market, Acai Oil is an anti-ageing warrior and skin saviour. Above all Acai Oil benefits, it is best known to soothe and protect the skin while promoting healthy, shiny hair.

As a popular export around the world, acai berries are predominately used within the health food industry as a rich source of nutrients and antioxidants. As a carrier oil, Acai Oil reigns as one of the most sought-after oils to combat common skin complaints, and to use as a base to dilute with your favourite essential oils.

What is Acai Oil?

Made by cold-pressing the fruit pulp of “berries” from the Acai palm tree (Euterpe Oleracea), this botanical species is native to the rainforests of Central and South America. The berries have dark purple skin (similar to blueberries) with yellow pulp and a small seed in the centre.

Because of the fruits distinctive colour, Acai Oil has a dark green colour and is a high viscosity liquid, meaning it has a slightly thicker consistency. It also has a shelf life of up to 2 years if stored correctly in a cool, dry, dark at room temperature.

In addition, Acai Oil has a high lipid content and is highly valued for its mono- and polyunsaturated fatty acids, vitamins, proteins and antioxidants. Not only can you add Acai Oil to existing conditioners, moisturisers and ointments, but it is a great base to dilute essential oils; it may also be particularly beneficial to those who are wanting to regenerate the skin and hair. It really is the ultimate ingredient to promote balanced, healthy hair and skin.
